Roulston returns for top rugby post
Feb.26.2010
New Zealand-born coach, Murray Roulston will return to the country on March 12 to take up the role as technical director of the T&T Rugby Football Union (TTRFU), according to selection committee chairman, Curtis Nero. Nero said Roulston was brought in by the Ministry of Sport to audit and evaluate the operations of the National Sport Organisation (NSO). He said after Roulston returned home, TTRFU rolled out the plan for the next two years.
“The plan includes the introduction of a pathway from schools right up to the senior level. The youth development programme which is aimed at spreading the sport throughout the region, as well as, an elite development programme for the national team,” said Nero. The Selection Committee chairman said it is about creating a culture of excellence and having a process and system which will help give them the opportunity to maximise the resources available.
“In terms of size of playing population, we are not as big as the other countries but I think if we maximise what we have we will certainly do better than we are doing at present,” he said. TTRFU President, Leslie Figaro heaped praises on Roulston. “Roulston has identified local coaches who have the potential to be developed into elite level coaches. His analysis was in depth, honest and insightful. “He identified problems and symptoms that must be solved if T&T rugby is to challenge for a 2016 and 2020 Olympic qualifying spot.”
