It was a difficult outing for Trinidad & Tobago’s Senior Men’s & Women’s National Rugby XVs Teams, as both sides were defeated by their Mexican counterparts in the Rugby Americas North (RAN) XVs Competition action on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
Playing at home, the Trinidad & Tobago Men made an impressive start, racing to a 10-0 lead early in the contest at the Larry Gomes Stadium. Debutant, Liam Cabralis, crossed over for a try, while fellow debutant, Nathan Achim, added the conversion and a penalty kick to give the hosts a strong platform.
However, the momentum soon shifted, as did the weather conditions with Mexico responding emphatically. The visitors scored 24 unanswered points to storm back and claim a 24-10 victory over the T&T Men’s Team.
Meanwhile, in Women’s action in Mexico City, Trinidad & Tobago produced a spirited performance, but ultimately came up just short against the hosts. Mexico held a narrow 19-17 advantage at half-time, despite veteran Fayola Jack scoring two tries for T&T. Alyssa Fields also crossed the line for a try, while Angel Jorsling successfully converted one of the scores.
The home side proved stronger in the second half, adding two more tries to seal a 27-17 victory and completed a successful day for Mexico in the RAN Women’s XVs Competition.
Despite the results, both Trinidad & Tobago Teams showed encouraging moments against one of the region’s strongest Rugby Nations and will look to rebuild on those performances in their upcoming fixtures.
