The Trinidad & Tobago Rugby Senior Men’s National Sevens Team has departed for Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with its sights firmly set on a medal-winning performance at the Central American and Caribbean Games commonly known as the CAC Games.
The rugby sevens competition begins on 25 July, with Trinidad and Tobago drawn alongside Colombia, Costa Rica and the host nation Dominican Republic. The National Team will be looking to build early momentum as they pursue a place in the knockout rounds.
Head Coach Jonathan O’Conner said the squad has embraced every aspect of its preparation and arrived in Santo Domingo with confidence and belief.
“The players have committed themselves throughout the preparation phase, and we are pleased with where the group is. We have a balanced squad with experienced leaders and exciting young talent coming through our development pathway. We respect every opponent, but we are traveling with the expectation of competing for a podium finish.”
Captain Shakeel Dyte once again leads the National side, bringing valuable experience and leadership to the squad. He will be supported by several established internationals, including the explosive Jonathan Taylor, whose pace continues to trouble opposition defences, Northern Ireland-based playmaker Ruairi O’Farrell, renowned for his vision and game management, and the powerful and versatile Isaiah Small, whose dynamic play has become a key component of Trinidad and Tobago’s attack.
The tournament also represents an important milestone in the national programme, with five players set to make their senior international debuts. Jaheim Walton, Edmund George, and Jeremiah Moore have all progressed through the Union’s junior pathway after recently representing Trinidad and Tobago at the Junior Pan American Games. Joining them are Andrew Quash and Isaac Small who will earn their first senior International Caps, highlighting the continued success of the Union’s player development programme.
The squad reflects a healthy balance of seasoned internationals and emerging talent, providing optimism not only for the CAC Games but also for the continued growth of Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Sevens on the regional stage.
