On Monday, May 10, 2021, Rugby Clubs across Trinidad and Tobago elected their first female President in the history of the Union. The former Honorary Secretary, Ms. Maria Thomas, was elected President of the Trinidad & Tobago Rugby Football Union (TTRFU) at the Union’s Annual General Meeting held virtually on Monday evening. Her experience both on and off the field will be valuable assets to the Executive Team and the Union.

The position of Vice President was filled by Mr. Don-Mario Sucre, who brings his passion for implementation of youth programmes and expanding the reach of rugby to the table. Mrs. Rochelle Tracey-Pantin replaces Ms. Thomas as Honorary Secretary, bringing the percentage of female representation on the Executive Committee to an unprecedented 40%. This brings the TTRFU closer to the gender parity goals set by World Rugby. Mr. Curtis Nero was uncontested and retained his position as Honorary Treasurer of the Union and has made a commitment to facilitate succession planning through training and mentoring. Mr. Kenwyn Davis officially joins the Executive Committee as Assistant Secretary/Treasurer following a successful internship with the TTRFU.

The new Executive Committee thanks the outgoing President, Mr. Colin Peters, for his longstanding commitment to the TTRFU and outgoing Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Mr. Karl Muckette, for his service, particularly to the Youth Development Programme. Mr. Carl Seymour, the late Vice President, is also remembered for his significant contributions to the TTRFU Strategic Plan.

This new Executive Committee looks forward to building relationships with stakeholders and give thanks in particular to the Ministry of Sport & Community Development (MSCD), The Sport Company of Trinidad & Tobago (SporTT), the Trinidad & Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC), Rugby Americas North (RAN), World Rugby (WR) and all Member Clubs and Affiliate Bodies of the TTRFU.

As we prepare the foundation for the safe return to play, we strive to create the opportunities we seek and unite in the camaraderie of rugby. In this time of uncertainty, we remember to “Accept No Limits” by bridging the gap to take Rugby in Trinidad and Tobago to the next level.
